Oman frankincense trees grow in southern part of Sultanate of Oman in the wild of Dhofar mountains.
Harvesters use special knife called manqaf to make cuts in mature tree bark and wait over weeks for sap to ooze from the tree. Each tree may produce 2 kg of frankincense sap per year. Trees are harvested on alternative rhythm so let to rest 2 years later on.
Frankincense sap is collected by tribal people in the region, packed in 40 kg jutes and shipped later to Mutrah market in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to our distillery where its refined then distilled to obtain frankincense essential oil and frankincense hydrosol.
Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) essential oil yield range from 4-6%. Distillation of 40 kg load last 9-10 hours and done at atmospheric pressure.
Hydrodistillation is a process for extraction and separation of liquids that has been used since ancient times. It’s the major and traditional way to extract essential oils.
Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) essential oil and hydrosol are then stored in UN certified coated aluminum bottles, packed and labelled ready to ship.
